In the bright of noon, summer still reigns
Stretching warm wind, too lazy to move still late in the afternoon
Yet the sun falls, sooner and sooner
Shadows grow under street lamps
And figures dance behind trees
Though shy, autumn dwells in the morning
And so blushes the tips of tree branches
And the cheeks of early-morning risers
A full-term September lies in
Allowing only so much
But soon, and sooner still
The sharp whip of October will come
Sweet with cinnamon winds, but unforgiving
Crisp with everything that once was
Behind the Writing
“I was inspired to write this poem because of the recent weather, how there’s evidence of fall yet it’s still warm outside.”
~ Riley McComb
