It is Blue | Margaret Derby

like that comforting, cozy heat that surrounds you in the summer, makes you jump in the pool or sit in the shade,

like that almost-night, that dusky darkness where the sun’s still a little out, refusing to go away just yet. that dark, inviting coolness at the end of a long day that makes you sit back and enjoy the better weather,

like the stain of blueberries on your lips and fingers, in cobbler or pie or on top of a scoop of vanilla ice cream. a blue raspberry popsicle, a slushie, a rootbeer float in the dead heat of summer, that rush of coolness as you take the first sip, the relief you feel as your body cools down just enough to finally function again,

like a calm, quiet room where you can sit and meditate or draw or write or just breathe and feel something other than the suffocating noise of the outside world,

like touching the bottom of the pool at summer camp, the paint of your childhood bedroom, your favorite denim sneakers, the fabric of your backpack left out in the grass while you go to soccer practice, your best friend’s eyes, the paint job of the buses at your university,

like the thought that the sun will rise again tomorrow morning and paint the sky with shades of cerulean, azure, robin’s egg, and sapphire and remind you that it’s a brand new beautiful day.
