Writer to Writer is a MiW student-run journal on campus that aims to foster interdisciplinary creativity by showcasing the literary work of University of Michigan students in a variety of modes, mediums, and genres.
We are usually located in 1135 NQ, but we will be suspending in-person meetings for the rest of the Winter 2020 semester.
Questions? Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit our social media linked at the bottom of the page.
Interested in joining?
Eligibility | Staff positions are open to MiW and non-MiW students alike.
Process | Anyone who attends 3+ consecutive meetings and actively contributes is considered a staff member (but can forfeit their position if 2+ consecutive meetings are missed, at the e-board’s discretion).
E–board | E-board members will be nominated and elected by the previous year’s e-board.
Art and Design | Our wonderful Art and Design chair Brooks is graduating W2020, and we will definitely need someone to fill this position for the 2020-2021 school year. If you have some interest or experience with Canva, InDesign, or other graphic design software, please reach out!
Responsibilities include designing and being a major proponent of the production of the end-of-year publication.
General staff | Since we’re still a pretty small, young org, we would love anyone and everyone who’s interested in working on the journal! General members do a little bit of everything; from content curation to copy-editing to general ops.
Our team is comprised of students in the Sweetland Minor in Writing program at the University of Michigan.
Caitlyn Zawideh | Editor in Chief
Caitlyn is a senior and an English major with minors in Computer Science, Digital Studies, and Writing. Her reason for writing can be summed up in this quote by Flannery O’Conner: “I write because I don’t know what I think until I read what I say.” When Caitlyn isn’t writing, she occasionally ventures into the outside world to see a movie or even go hiking.
Aylin Gunal | Operations
Aylin is a junior studying Data Science with a minor in Writing. She writes because it frees up space in her mind. In her free time, she likes watching British TV (TaskMaster right now) and making different kinds of veggie burgers.
Brooks Eisenbise| Art and Design
Brooks is a senior at Stamps and is ❤ but her bio is currently under construction!
Briana Johnson | Communications
Briana is technically a senior studying Communications. She writes because she talks too much and sometimes someone isn’t there to listen. She has a podcast––check it out!
Sydney Wagner | Editor
Sydney is a junior in LSA majoring in Communications and Media. She writes because it gives her the space to say things she can’t quite articulate out loud. She also enjoys living inside the safety of music and the narrative affordances that melodies and instrumentation provide.
Aria Gerson | Editor
Aria Gerson is a junior studying Political Science with minors in History and Writing. She writes because it’s how she makes sense of everything going on around her. Outside of Writer to Writer, she covers Michigan football for the Michigan Daily and local arts events for Arts at Michigan.
Kate Walsh | Editor
Kate is a junior pursuing a B.A. in Environment. She writes because it allows her ro most accurately process and represent her thoughts. With writing, she gives herself the time to think through and process her musings before putting them out into the world. She loves all things water-related––whether it be swimming, boating, writing about it, or even just admiring its beauty––she’s always happiest near a body of water!
Madi Altman | Editor
Madi is a freshman in the Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience. She writes as a way to express how she feels––sometimes all of her thoughts are jumbled in her head, so writing is a cathartic way to clarify her thoughts and feelings. Fun fact: she was a ballet dancer and spent about 6 years en pointe.
