Policies
Eligibility | Staff positions are open to MiW and non-MiW students alike.
Process | Anyone who attends 3+ consecutive meetings and actively contributes is considered a staff member (but can forfeit their position if 2+ consecutive meetings are missed, at the e-board’s discretion).
E–board | E-board members will be nominated and elected by the previous year’s e-board.

Since we’re still a pretty small, young org, we would love anyone and everyone who’s interested in working on the journal! General members do a little bit of everything; from content curation to copy-editing to general ops.
Our Team
Our Eboard is comprised of students both inside and outside of the Sweetland Minor in Writing program at the University of Michigan.
Haley Newland | Editor-in-Chief
Haley is a junior from Bad Axe, Michigan studying English and History. She writes because it’s how she can reach out to and connect with others in the world around her. Outside of Writer to Writer, she enjoys reading and discussing film. Her favorite book is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
Merin McCallum | Managing Editor
Merin is a junior studying Public Policy at the Ford School with minors in Writing and History. She loves writing because it allows her to articulate her thoughts and emotions in a way speaking cannot. Besides Writer to Writer, Merin is captain of Michigan’s Mock Trial Team and is a research assistant for the Michigan Institute of Social Research.
Jiayou Shen | Operations Chair
Jiayou is a senior studying Psychology and English. Outside of Writer to Writer, she is an associate reader at the Michigan Quarterly Review and a writing consultant at the Sweetland Center for Writing. Jiayou carries around a sketchbook with her everywhere.
Michelle Liao | Submissions Chair
Michelle is a sophomore studying Psychology & Political Science. Outside of Writer to Writer, she is a campus tour guide and she writes for the Michigan Daily. Michelle currently has 979 books on her To Be Read list.
